Soft Maple Hardwood SamplesWhat is soft maple hardwood?: Soft maple has an indistinct grain pattern. It is offwhite in color. It is significantly less dense than hard maple. Soft maple is generally used in the interior of cabinetry (unstained), or is used as an exterior wood and stained a dark color. Stain applied to soft maple is not uniform due to variations in grain and density. With age, soft maple will take on slight amber and cream tones. This change is minor. Its species name is Acer Rubrum. Its Janka rating (hardness and resistance to scrapes, gouges and cuts) is 950.
