Springtime in Central Texas

by Erik Schimek on April 23, 2010

Growing up in Michigan, I never imagined that any part of Texas could be green and lush. But now that I live in an area of Central Texas that can be likened to Rivendale from LOTR, I know better. Here are a few photos of the first spring blooms here. [I accidentally messed up the resolution of the photos, but hopefully they will do]. We’re already on the verge of the second round of blooming. That is one of the cool things about the growing season here; the plants and flowers are always changing and transforming throughout the year. As long as we don’t have a drought, our area of Texas stays pretty green and lush – and free of tumbleweeds. ;)

Irises from the butterfly garden

Blue Bonnets (the Texas state flower) randomly in the road

An open field (you can hardly notice the Blue Bonnets)

My first Zwanenburg Blue Tradescantia bloom

Roses from the native garden

White Salvia Gregii from the native garden

And some zinnias that I planted
