Hopefully, by now you’ve seen the “Green Police” ads for Audi that were a feature during the Superbowl. Most environmental activists … let’s just say that they really hated these ads, which depicted an enviro-police swooping down on people for the smallest of recycling and waste-mixing miscues.
One person who didn’t hate them, however, was Heidi Siegelbaum of American Public Radio’s “Greenwash Brigade“. She’s one of the hosts of an occasional series that looks at how “green” is used to sell products that don’t exactly fit the best description of good practices.
Siegelbaum believes that we need to have a good sense of humor about these things, and it’s OK for a genuinely “green” product like Audi to stretch our sense of humor. As always, your mileage may vary.
The entire site is worth a read, but if you haven’t yet seen the ads this is your chance. There are many other good articles on the Greenwashing of America that are worth reading, too. Make up your own mind, and as always let the green buyer beware!
