Here at Erik Organic, we’re always searching for new ways to enhance today’s living with traditional designs updated ever so slightly. One of the trends that we’re responding to more and more is the modern “Wine Server”. It’s a warm, inviting piece of furniture designed to display some of the fabulous wines that are now available from boutique vineyards across the globe.
As a conversation starter, a Wine Server draws people in to sample the bounty of a thoughtful and sometimes whimsical collection. Think of it as a wine cellar turned into both display and practical center that stores everything needed to sample the amazing variety of fruits from the vintner’s art.
This example was recently made up for a customer to match the clean, elegant Cordoba style table. It has the clean lines of the style with life breathed into them through the rich texture of Quartersawn Oak. It could also be fitted with an upper shelf for handy display of wine glasses.
Usually, a wine server is shorter than a traditional China Cabinet — it’s supposed to invite guests over to it rather than dominate the room. Finding the right balance between needed storage, warm intimacy, and just a touch of showing off is the tricky part. In this case, it fit best in the space and the customer’s life by laying pretty low and long, with a tremendous amount of surface on top that can double as a serving area for parties.
However it works out best for any particular home, the Wine Server is a big trend this year for very obvious reasons. Today’s wines are not serious, heavy things to be secreted away in a dark cellar, they are adventurous and beg to be on display. Yet for all their boldness, wine making is still a craft from deep ancient times. There is no better way to express the conversation between warmth and adventure, nature and craftsmanship, or tradition and innovation than these bold pieces.
We are continuing to find ways of meeting this exciting challenge. If you have a few ideas from your own lifestyle that you’d like to see realized in crafted hardwood, give us a call and see if we can make them real!
