Walnut Kitchen Tables

The fact that walnut heartwood is the only naturally dark-colored wood native to North America has made it popular with furniture, cabinet and flooring manufacturers since the continent was first settled.

This deep, rich brown is only achieved by very specific drying and handling techniques, a fact which Erik Organic's Amish furniture craftsmen are well aware. This is why some of their other walnut and mixed-wood tables – from the simple but elegantly styled Mission to the Woodland – show the wood to such advantage.

Of course, you can have almost any of Erik Organic's kitchen table styles translated into pure walnut hardwoods, or blend walnut with other woods for a striking piece of furniture that will become an instant classic. And you can rest assured that the table they create will be made from 100-percent American hardwoods, sustainably grown and harvested, some within 50 miles of the shop, because Erik Organic does not use "imitation" or "engineered" woods like plywood, particle board and laminated veneers.

For example, the Craftsman Kitchen Table, with its splendidly curved concave legs and crossed stretcher support, would be a delight in walnut and hickory. As would the Western Kitchen Table, whose elaborately steam-bent legs and stretcher supports in hickory would show off superbly against a walnut tabletop and base. Or imagine the Lancaster Kitchen Table, a very plain style that could be rescued from anonymity with mixed walnut and cherry woods.

One of the best features of walnut hardwood, in addition to its shock resistance, is the tight grain that allows the wood to be turned, or lathed, into a work of art so smooth it challenges purest silk.

Whatever style you choose, your walnut hardwood kitchen table will acquire instant "heirloom quality" status simply because most furniture isn't made with this kind of care and attention to detail any more.
