Pennsylvania Shaker Kitchen Table Characteristics

Our Pennsylvania Shaker kitchen tables are created by an Amish craftsman with 25 years of tablemaking experience.

Each table is individually handmade to a high quality standard, and is designed to outlast the owner. Our furniture will become the next generation's heirlooms and antiques.

Our Pennsylvania Shaker tables can be created in nearly any size, so long as the table is smaller than 80" x 50" (including table leaves).

Pennsylvania Shaker tables can have 1-2 table leaves added to expand seating capacity, but the total size of the table cannot be larger than 80" x 50".

The tabletop is created from 1.5" thick hardwood, and stands at 30" tall.

Kitchen Table Options: An Explanation of Terms

kitchen table hardwood

Hardwood: Wood choice affects the appearance, durability and cost of our kitchen tables. See our hardwood sample section for details on available hardwoods.

For the cost conscious, oak or soft maple is the preferred option. Oak is very versatile and can be stained a number of different colors.

For added durability, we recommend hard maple.

Size: Our kitchen tables have a number of standard sizes available, we can also create them in custom sizes. Please contact us for a price quote.

Wood Finish: Select the finish to match your choice of hardwood. You can learn more about the qualities of these finishes in our hardwood sample pages.

Tabletop: The tabletop design can change the look of a table substantially. Please click here to see our tabletop options chart.

The pennsylvania shaker design has limited tabletop options due to the placement of support legs in the four corners.

The Rounded 1" Cut Tabletop is popular with customers who want a rectangular tabletop, but want to avoid sharp corners.

Table Edge: The table edge design affects the edge of the tabletop. Please click here to see our table edge chart.

Table Leaves: 12" and 18" leaves can be added to all of our kitchen tables. They are added to the interior of the table, as seen in this photo.

The maximum number of leaves that can be added per table:
42" long table: three 12" leaves, or two 18" leaves.
50" long table: four 12" leaves, or two 18" leaves.
60" long table: five 12" leaves, or three 18" leaves.
70" long table: five 12" leaves, or three 18" leaves.
80" long table: six 12" leaves, or four 18" leaves.
90" long table: six 12" leaves, or four 18" leaves.
100" long table: eight 12" leaves, or five 18" leaves.
110" long table: nine 12" leaves, or five 18" leaves.
120" long table: ten 12" leaves, or six 18" leaves.
130" long table: ten 12" leaves, or seven 18" leaves.
140" long table: eleven 12" leaves, or seven 18" leaves.

We recommend ordering any necessary leaves along with your kitchen table, to assure a proper grain and color match.

Certain sizes of kitchen tables can store one or two 12" leaves inside the table, when the leaves are not being used inside the tabletop. The table must 42" in width (or larger), 50" in length (or larger), and must be rectanglar in shape in order to self-store table leaves.

I like to think about (my dining table) starting its life as a beautiful tree in the Minnesota woods and coming to us through a person who made it with his own hands. It's a beautiful object that I will love for years to come. I look forward to many happy meals with family and friends at this lovely table.
