Maple Dining Table Details
Nothing says enduring like maple. It is one of the strongest, densest, most lasting varieties of hardwood you can choose for your furniture.
Used in everything from flooring to cabinetry, maple is a buttery white to off-white wood in its natural state. From the highly valued cuts of wood known as birds-eye maple (which are believed to result from a fungus or virus), to the deeper, somewhat rosy or amber heartwood, maple is one of the favorite choices of furniture craftsmen, even though its tight grain makes it more difficult to cut.
Conversely, it is precisely this density that makes maple so ideal for turning on a lathe, as well as superbly resistant to the shocks and abrasive wear that makes furniture look old before its time. In addition, maple is slow to absorb dampness, again making it ideal for surfaces where food and drink are placed.
Erik Organic's highly experienced Amish woodcrafters have taken this prime wood and created several designs that offer enormous eye-appeal in a food-related setting. From the pale, gleaming, lustrous table tops, all created from 1.5 inch thick hardwood for timelessness, to the legs, massively turned or trestled, these maple dining tables suggest that the worst a young family could do wouldn't even make a dent.
